portrait of an upsidedown tree [outdoor projection and sound] 2007

PORTRAIT OF AN UPSIDEDOWN TREE [son et lumières]
Reprocessed in the upper Barrakka Gardens, Valletta  October 2007

This work was created for the night-time event: Notte Bianca - Lejl Imdawwal, held in the public Barrakka Gardens, Valletta.  The work evokes an environmental statement through the "tree" as an archetypal signification for the cycle of life.  Sound, distributed in the gardens, consisted of intermittent birdsong and war jets.  This was used as a metonymic device for the disruption of nature within the context of a universal disorder as a consequence of global warming and the ultimate depletion of trees.
